Court of Master Sommeliers

Regularly teach and examine the rising sommeliers and wine professionals around the country.  Courses are offered through the Court of Master Sommeliers.

Wine Talk Radio

Veteran talk show host David Gold and I are teaming up to bring the world of wine to your radio!  Fast paced, casual and informative is our motto and we are delivering it through WTCM AM 580 out of Traverse City, Michigan starting March 7th, 2009.  Catch us Saturdays at 4 PM.

Buyers Vine

Buyers Vine has engaged me to fine tune his computer driven wine selector tool.  It is a touch screen driven computer program that acts as a wine recommendation resource for retail wine outlets.  We have worked together to accurately pick out wines from the store's inventory based on what the customer wishes to buy.  It is a continuing process of increased accuracy, very exciting!  Put it in your retail store or demand it be placed in your favorite retailer!

CRUSH BIRMINGHAM Wine and Food Classic

Children's Leukemia Foundation and I have collaborated to create a yearly wine and food festival centered on the harmony of wine and cuisine.  This year was a great success and you should check out the site for the details by clicking the title above.

Corporate and Private Wine Events

I am often engaged by companies and individuals to host and plan entertaining and educational wine events.  Here is a short list of recent clients

Galley Gourmet, Petoskey Michigan

Roger and Karen Williams ship my monthly wine club which you can learn more about in this website.  They also use me for specialty catering work.  Contact them at 231-439-2665 info@galleygourmet.com or just click on the link above to go to their site.

20 Brix

20 Brix is a 1 year old wine bar in Milford, Ohio owned by Hunter Thomas.  I had the privilege and joy to build their opening wine list from scratch!  It is a very hip concept showing the world of wine in under 150 choices.  The best part is the 50 or so wines by the glass at all levels of quality and price.  You can have a delightful Rueda from Spain or a highly respected Burgundy in a 2 oz, 5 oz or bottle portion.  Check it out if you are in the area as it has been touted as one of the best wine bar programs in the country by Crystal Beverage Awards, and received 3 other awards as well.

Henry Ford Health Systems Philanthropy Department

Co-Wine Director for RARE!  Now an annual event for Cardiovascular Research.  Collaborate with Claudia Tyagi, MS and Madeline Triffon, MS.

Aroma Wines and Equipment

Cristian Pavalescu has used me to help him choose the right wines to import and to expand his distribution network.

Past Projects

Forest Grill

CEC Brian Polcyn and I reunited our efforts this summer to create a wonderful new restaurant in Birmingham, Michigan.  I had the great pleasure of creating his opening wine list.  I also indoctrinated his opening service staff in the nobility of service and wine.  It is a cool place and the list is designed to let you build your own flights of wine in two or five ounce pours.  Check it out personally or through the link above.

Tapawingo

One of the premier dining experiences in Michigan awaits you at this wonderful country side restaurant.  After being the Sommelier/Manager there for 3 years I was asked to become the Consulting Wine Director and you will find my fingerprint on their wine program from July 2007 to July 2008.  You will occasionally find me in the dining room as well, so please drop by.

The Grapevine School of Wine, Metro Detroit Suburbs

An exciting, fun and academic wine education format for the every day wine fans of the Metro Detroit area.  Check out our class listings on line at the link above.

Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island Michigan

Townsend Hotel, Birmingham Michigan

La Bécasse, Budickville Michigan

This is a wonderfully cozy French Bistro.  New ownership wanted to take the wine program up a notch and brought me in to assist.

  • Energized the wine list and focused their vision so that the French Bistro concept of the restaurant is now reflected in the wine list

  • Trained their staff along the way

  • Assisted with understanding cost control and financial tracking.

Five Lakes Grill

Chef Brian Polcyn has created a magical little spot on the fringe of Metro Detroit while still teaching charcuterie at Schoolcraft Culinary School.  Great Mid-West dining.  Interim General Manager for 3 weeks during a search for new General Manager.
